A Local's Guide to the Perfect Romantic Weekend
Forget rushing from attraction to attraction. Some of the best weekends are about slowing down, discovering somewhere new together and leaving a little room to wander. If I was planning the perfect weekend in Launceston for Shaun and me, this is exactly how we'd spend it.
Friday Afternoon: Get Creative Together
Check into your accommodation and ease into the weekend with something a little different.
Book a pottery session at Glazed & Confused, where you'll spend a couple of hours laughing, getting your hands dirty and creating something to remember your trip by. It's relaxed, a little messy and a fantastic way to kick off a weekend together.
Afterwards, wander a few doors down to Bar Cinco for a pre-dinner drink. Whether it's a cocktail or a glass of Tasmanian wine, it's the perfect place to slow the pace before the evening begins.
For dinner, head to Felix, and celebrating seasonal Tasmanian produce and handmade pasta in an intimate setting.
Not quite ready for bed?
Finish the evening with a nightcap at The Dill Pickle Club, Launceston's hidden underground cocktail bar. If you didn't know it was there, you'd probably walk straight past it.
Saturday: Local Flavours & Hidden Stories
Start your morning wandering through the Harvest Market, where local growers, bakers and producers showcase some of the best food in Tasmania. Grab a coffee, sample fresh produce and pick up something delicious for later.
From there, join The Heart of Launceston walking tour with us at Launceston by Foot. It's the perfect introduction to the city, filled with local stories, beautiful architecture, hidden laneways and plenty of recommendations for the rest of your weekend.
By lunchtime you'll be ready to head down to the Seaport. Grab a casual lunch at Levee Food Co., settle in with a shared pizza and a Tasmanian wine, and enjoy watching the boats drift along the kanamaluka.
In the afternoon, escape to the Clover Hill Vineyard for their 2-Hour Vineyard Tour & Wine Tasting. It's a chance to learn more about one of Tasmania's best-known sparkling wine producers while soaking up the beautiful Pipers River countryside.
If you're looking for something a little different after dinner, catch a movie at the beautifully restored Star Theatre. Grab a glass of Tasmanian wine, sink into your seat and enjoy one of Australia's oldest continually operating cinemas.
Sunday: Slow Down
Start your final morning with brunch at Stillwater, one of Launceston's iconic dining destinations. Set beside the kanamaluka, it's one of those places that never disappoints.
Then take a slow walk, hand in hand, through Cataract Gorge. Wander the gardens, cross the suspension bridge, watch the peacocks wander past and, if you're feeling like kids again, take a ride on the famous chairlift.
There's no rush.
Sometimes the best part of a romantic weekend is simply having nowhere else to be.
